Macanudo Café

SKU: KS-MCA

Macanudo uses a silky-smooth Connecticut shade wrapper. True Connecticut shade grown wrapper is an expensive proposition. And General Cigar - owners of the Macanudo brand - found a way to make it even more expensive. They don't do this any more but up until a few years back, they would pack all the wrapper tobacco harvested in the summer onto containers for the winter and put them on a boat from Connecticut to the Dominican Republic. They called this fermentation process, "winter sweat," an overall process which takes almost 3 years. After arriving in the DR, it is stored and fermented for 18 mos. Then it's all shipped back to Connecticut for another 6-8 months. The idea is that the fermentation in the colder Connecticut climate "pauses" and halts the accumulation of ammonia. The wrapper is then shipped back down to the Dominican again for another round of fermentation in the factory. The end result being a very mild and smooth, unintrusive and pleasant taste. A 3 year long luxury cruise!

Although that process is not used today, Macanudo does indeed employ some of the finest, most elastic, vein-free, and beautiful Connecticut shade tobacco there is. Combined with San Andres binders, Cuban seed Dominican and Mexican long fillers, the end result is a mellow, creamy, and smooth smoke with a sweet aroma. Mild in body. So mild are they, in fact, that many find the blend to be a nearly flavorless airball. But if you enjoy mild cigars on occasion, or for those newer to the joys of cigar smoking, Macanudo is an excellent choice.
